Briggs and Stratton is known for there Briggs and Stratton Engines, Briggs and Stratton Parts, and Briggs and Stratton Power Products. What you may not know, is that the Briggs and Stratton Co. purchased the Murray Brand Name in 2004 after the company filed bankruptcy. Murray Lawn Mower had its start as an off shoot of the Murray bicycle company. In 1988, the Murray Lawn and Garden ( Lawn Mower ) division was purchased by a British company known by the name Tomkins. Tomkins also purchased the Noma lawn mower brand and consolidated the companies. The new Murray Lawn Mower division licensed the Stanley Brand name and sold Lawn Mowers, Snow Throwers and other Outdoor Power Equipment to the Wal Mart Company branded Stanley.
Briggs and Stratton currently retails and maintains Murray Lawn Mowers. Briggs and Stratton also holds the rights to Simplicity, Snapper and other Lawn Mower Companies. Some of these can be found as Briggs and Stratton Power Products.
